Over the last ten years, photographer Miska Draskoczy has documented various facets of the rapidly changing neighborhood of Gowanus, Brooklyn. In this visual talk, Miska will use his photographs to share what he has captured, from the urban wilderness and environmental hot zone to the people and history of the neighborhood’s industrial buildings. Guests will get to see images from a variety of photography series Miska has created, including a project where he is using the 19th-century technique of plate-glass photography to document the historic, at-risk industrial buildings of Gowanus. As an eager explorer of NYC, Miska will also share unseen images from some of his ongoing long-term projects that examine unusual pockets of nature, offbeat architecture, and culture across the city.
