Analogia – large scale installation by Ben Tritt at Bryant Park
Curators and artists alike have been hard at work with their installations—some in galleries and some in our parks—all with a view toward Armory Arts Week, which will begin on March 5th and end on March 10th.
Much of Armory Arts Week is indoors, but we’ve been enjoying some of our park installations coinciding with the festivities such as last week’s Iván Navarro water tower exhibit in Madison Square Park. This week we are watching Ben Tritt’s installation, Analogia. Ben is no stranger to large scale outdoor projects. This one consists of two towers measuring fifteen by fifteen feet at the base and rising sixty feet above the park.
We were fortunate to be at Bryant Park when Analogia was being installed

Within the two towers there are twelve paintings based on famous sculptural works from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The paintings are made using 200 gallons of tar and enamel, aluminum paint and mineral spirits on 600 yards of burlap canvases.
The installation is located on the Fountain Terrace facing Avenue of the Americas and is part of Bryant Park’s transition from winter to spring. The project producer, Jodi Kaplan, has added additional components including dance, music and spoken word.
A native New Yorker currently living in Brooklyn, the artist has exhibited extensively in New York, Paris and Tel Aviv. With his use of 1.5 miles of bamboo in addition to the tar, enamel, burlap and 30,000 pounds of steel, he hopes to capture the inherent tension and similarity of our world cultures in what is called a Babel-like structure expressing Western and non-Western traditions.
Analogia will be up until March 18th.
