ART on STREETS: A Residence

One of the most enjoyable things about living in the city of San Francisco is how visually dynamic it is. There is simply art everywhere, but not in a way that inundates you. The most interesting pieces are hidden away in nooks and crannies, and many people often overlook the “candy” placed in prominent locations.  ART on STREETS highlights this city’s art through the lens of a “Polaroid”” camera (except it’s an app on the phone).

This house is in the Mission on 20th Street, between Guererro and Valencia. The reason the artwork on the staircase interests me so much is not just because it’s so cute, but more so that it’s on a house located in a particularly historic area. It’s on a charming block, and just down the street from it are some of the oldest homes in the city. When you come across the work, the colors really jump right out at you.

How to find it: Take the J and get off at the top of Dolores Park. From there, walk downhill on 20th until you hit Guerrero and  Valencia streets. There might even be food trucks on your way. (Often on weekends there is one on the south side of Dolores Park on 20th Street!)
