This past weekend I spent in Manchester at the 7th Manchester Artists Book Fair with Hot Bed Press. They’re the largest open access print workshop in the region, and as a not-for-profit organization are dedicated to supporting anyone with an interest in printmaking, and promoting printmaking to a wider audience. Along with the gallery of artists who showed their books at the fair, the Special Collections of the University of Manchester Library showcased its collection of artists’ books as well as an exhibition of works by Anthony Ratcliffe.
This is the second year in a row that I’ve done this particular fair and both years it’s been in the same lovely building, the School of Art’s Holden Gallery. The room itself where the fair is held is a lovely big room with high ceilings and a glass roof which lets in lots of light – perfect for browsing through artist books.
The fair was on from Friday October 12 through Saturday Oct 13 and was part of the Manchester Weekender, with other events nearby on and around Oxford Road including the Paper exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery as well as launch events at The Cornerhouse and The Whitworth Art Gallery and various pop-up events.
