On March 1st, ARTECHOUSE, an innovative digital art space in the former boiler room of Chelsea Market, will unveil its latest immersive experience, Geometric Properties by Dutch visual and fractal artist Julius Horsthuis. This new installation will take visitors on a “mind-bending journey through the infinite geometric patterns of fractal worlds.” Through Horsthuis’ mesmerizing images, visitors will travel “from our recent past to an ideal future — one that returns to nature and math as a source for inspiration.” The hi-tech imaging and sound equipment at ARTECHOUSE fully immerse you in the visual and auditory experience. If you are an Untapped New York Insider, you can be a part of this experience for free!

Geometric Properties is ARTECHOUSE’s “most technologically-advanced fractal experience yet,” explains Founder and Chief Creative Officer Sandro. A fractal, in the most basic terms, is a never-ending pattern. The experience merges Horsthuis’ “beautiful immersive worlds of endless patterns” with the state-of-the-art technology available at ARTECHOUSE. The final result is a colorful and “groundbreaking exploration of the depths of mathematics and digital nature.”

Horsthuis approached this project, his first solo exhibition in New York City, as if he was a National Geographic photographer or filmmaker, taking what he sees in the world and presenting it in the most impactful way. Geometric Properties looks at mathematics “as the language of nature” and Horsthuis expresses this language through immersive images of endless fractional dimensions. Within this reimagined world of mathematical patterns, visitors are encouraged to reflect on the “pure wonderment of being.”

In a time where disease and division characterize our daily reality, I want to show a different existence. An eternal reality of healing and harmony. Not in some new-age kind of way, or with another utopic vision detached from humanity, but just by being in awe of endless iterations and multiple dimensions. This might be the perfect time for us to be in awe – to quiet our self-interest and make us realize we’re part of a larger whole,” says Julius Horsthuis. His  signature use of fractals to create sci-fi-type worlds makes his art stand apart.

Original soundtracks by Michael Stearns and David Levy accompany 360-degree images. Outside of the central exhibition space, original work from ARTECHOUSE’s creative team with Fractal Lab by Simon Alexander Adams and Corrugated Origami pieces will be on display. These works further explore the principles of fractals.

Geometric Properties is open to all ages and will be on view from March 1st to September 6th, 2021. You can experience Geometric Properties for free as an Untapped New York Insider on April 14th.
