Everyone wants to get their hands on this custom Brooklyn LEGO set designed by the New York City architecture firm The Brooklyn Studio. After word got out about the set, originally designed as a holiday gift for the firm’s clients and collaborators to celebrate its 25th anniversary, there was such strong demand from the general public that the set will soon be available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale of each set will be donated to the Historic Districts Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic neighborhoods, buildings, and public spaces in New York City.
The custom Brooklyn LEGO set was created in collaboration with Steve Mayes, an independent LEGO artist whose previous projects include replicas of cities and landmarks throughout the UK, including Newcastle upon Tyne, Manchester, Durham, and York. The Brooklyn LEGO set is made up of 349 individual pieces that you can put together to form a “loosely defined geography of Brooklyn, spanning from Carroll Gardens to Prospect Heights.” The structures featured in the set are historic sights in Brooklyn from the Carroll Street Bridge and the Gowanus Canal to the rowhouses of Park Slope and the triumphal arch of Grand Army Plaza.
Each set comes in custom packaging with step-by-step building instructions and additional information about the places depicted. For an extra touch of realism, the Carroll Street Bridge can be placed in its fully retracted position, where it has sat, in real life, for the last 19 months.

“Our goal is to make architectural stewardship fun and cool,” says Christopher Devine, Marketing Director at The Brooklyn Studio. “What’s cooler than learning about nineteenth-century urbanism? Nothing. We hope this set inspires the next generation of architects and preservationists.” The sets for purchase are expected to be available later in January. Prices have not yet been released.
