Untapped New York will be raffling off a one-year membership to MOMA (the Museum of Modern Art) at the charity: water benefit on September 9th, 2010! It has been predicted that water will become the new oil, a resource for which nations will rise and fall and send their men and women into battle for. Today a billion people (15% of the world) lack access to clean drinking water and by 2030, nearly half the world’s population will live in an area with sever water stress.[1]
As such, both the for-profit and non-profit industries have taken note. Gas, oil and wind-energy tycoon, T. Boone Pickens once controlled the largest independent oil exploration company in the United States. More recently known for his alternative energy policy known as the Pickens Plan, he has invested $100 million into the water industry and now owns more water than any individual in the U.S.
On the other side of the spectrum, charity: water is a unique non-profit: it’s a grassroots operation with full transparency. 100% of your donations go into the field because operational costs are funded by private donors and sponsors. They even refund credit card and Paypal fees on donations made online. They’re involved in 16 countries around the world and in just four years have funded nearly 3000 projects.
On September 9th, 2010, join Untapped New York and charity: water for an evening of music and art at Gallery Bar (120 Orchard Street). DJ Jamieson Hill is flying in from Tokyo to spin the event and there will be raffles for the MOMA membership, TOMS shoes and more. To get on the list, donate $20 (or more!) here.
$20 can provide someone with clean, safe drinking water for 20 years. Here’s a video on where your donations will go this September:
