Though Yankee Stadium is most directly connected with its equally famous baseball team, historically, the stadium has also been used for a wide spectrum of sporting events. In the 1940s the short lived New York Yankees football team was based out of the Bronx stadium.  This Sunday will be the first time an ice hockey event occurs in Yankee Stadium, and a rink has been built in the field.

55,000 fans will don hats, jackets, and gloves to watch the New York Rangers face off against the New Jersey Devils. This game is part of the National Hockey League’s Stadium Series, in which six outdoor games are played throughout the country.
