A quest to find his grandmother's birthplace led Richard Marc Sakols on a mission to capture his changing neighborhood on film.
We’ve seen some strange spa treatments before, but a Japanese sake soak in NYC? Wouldn’t you be tempted to drink it?Sake has long been touted for its purifying and moisturizing qualities. Geishas supposedly bathed in sake daily in order to soften their skin. It’s also a New Years tradition to bathe in sake, said to clear away bad spirits and grant new beginnings.
The Shibui Spa in Tribeca’s Greenwich Hotel offers a guests the chance to experience this Japanese tradition. The spa’s latern-lit pool sits beneath a wood and bamboo canopy taken from a 250-year old Japanese farmhouse. The spa also offers white lotus milk baths, hinoki mint baths, and detoxifying baths with Himalayan sea salt and an essential oil blend of grapefruit, rosemary and juniper.
There are various other unique spa treatments to be had around NYC. Aire Ancient Baths, located in Tribeca, utilizes a Greco-Roman spa treatment, which involves a 90 minute session of seven stages, each one with a different water temperature.
Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa, with several locations around NYC, offers what sounds to be an even more unique treatment: Warm Cocoa & Oatmeal Wrap.
These are just a small selection of a wide range of interesting and unique spa treatments around the city.
