If your favorite Subway sandwich is the BMT then you’re in for a surprise: it is named for the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit system which ran trains like the 7, J, K, L, M, Q, as well as some of the double lettered subway lines from 1923 to 1940. Subway has been using the initials for their Italian sub since 1975, calling it “Biggest, Meatiest, Tastiest.” Interestingly at the time, they only had Subway restaurants in Connecticut and Massachusetts, none in New York! We’re fans of this video spotted at Brokelyn by Split Comedy Group, which suggested some new additions to the Subway menu, modeled after NYC transit:
