Daily What?! The Nameless Parks of Brooklyn

A recent post by Matt Green, who is walking every street of NYC, highlighted the phenomenon of nameless parks in Brooklyn. Some of the borough’s green spaces are simply known as “park,” leaving a stretch of parks without a name from DUMBO to Bay Ridge.

Brooklyn Paper. Most of them are modest triangles wedged between an intersection or in a forgotten open space with no amenities, but three of them are legitimate parks equipped with benches, fences, and greenery

Each of these three nameless parks is located in Park Slope, a mere ten-minute walk from the famous Prospect Park. There’s apparently no reason why these green spaces haven’t been christened with a name, as nearly every city park has been named for a historical element. But it does take either the passage of a local law or the decision of a park commissioner to get a park named.
