Not sure how long this is going to last, but as of tonight the Empire State Building has gone tie-dye in honor of the Grateful Dead and an upcoming exhibition curated by the New York Historical Society, slated for March 2010. The exhibition will be culled almost entirely from the Grateful Dead archive, featuring “an array of original art and documents related to the band, its members, performances, and productions. Exhibition highlights from the archive will include concert and recording posters, album art, large-scale marionettes and other stage props, banners, and vast stores of decorated fan mail.” You can meet Phil Lesh and Bob Weir tomorrow at the NY Historical Society fundraiser for 300 bones.
Here are the color schemes for each side of the skyscraper:
North Side: purple/orange/yellow from bottom to top
West Side: green/purple/red from bottom to top
South Side: yellow/red/blue from bottom to top
East Side: orange/blue/green from bottom to top
Also, a reminder that the “Sunrise Edition” of Manhattanhenge will occur on November 30th (or December 5th) and Untapped will be there to capture its effect on the Empire State.
Empire State Building is located at 350 5th Ave @ 34th street.
