Virtual Tour of Naval Cemetery Landscape

Come visit, virtually, one of New York City's secret green spaces, the Naval Cemetery Landscape (NCL). This hidden historical gem is one of the only publicly accessible parts of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and features some of the Yard's most interesting history. The former Brooklyn Naval Hospital Cemetery was active from until 1910 and was the burial site for more than 2,000 people. Today, the site has been thoughtfully re imagined as a memorial meadow and elevated boardwalk, honoring those laid to rest by restoring the natural habitat of a bygone Brooklyn.

This virtual tour will be led by Danielle Knott, the Naval Cemetery Landscape Coordinator at Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, the non-profit that stewards NCL and the 26-mile Brooklyn Greenway that is yet to be completed. The event will take place at the end of Pollinator Week (June 22-28, 2020)
