How to Make a Subway Map with John Tauranac
Hear from an author and map designer who has been creating maps of the NYC subway, officially and unofficially, for over forty years!
For the next couple weeks the stunning Cunard Building will be even more spectacular than usual. The opulently decorated building built for the Cunard Steamship Line in 1921 is decked out in nautical themed murals huge vaulted ceilings and intricate plasterwork, a marvelous display on its on. This summer the innovative team at Moment Factory, an internationally acclaimed multimedia entertainment studio, made the Cunard Building even more amazing by turning it into a surrealist space of mesmerizing visuals with their show SuperReal. The show is a limited engagement and will end on September 2nd, but you can be a part of one of the last performances, for free, if you are an Untapped Cities Insider!
Last year Moment Factory dazzled New Yorkers with the visual feast that was D.S DestiNY, a multimedia show that took viewers on a journey through the past incarnations of New York City on a ship of dreams. This year the technologically advanced team at Moment Factory is back inside the Cunard Building, home to Cipriani 25 Broadway, with a “45-minute multimedia journey through a series of virtual realms that are nonsensical, grandiose, and utterly mesmerizing.”

The show takes over the building’s 12,000-square foot grand hall, formerly the ticketing lobby of the steamship line. The floor is covered with 6,000-square feet of mirror that reflect the soaring 30-foot tall vaulted ceilings. Using advanced mapping technology, every inch of the iconic architecture is digitally transformed “to take you on a journey from the Real to SuperReal.”
