From the towering Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree to the inventive holiday window displays at Fifth Avenue’s world-famous department stores, there’s a magical aura about the city during the holiday season. This year, you can explore the best of the city’s shimmering holiday decorations with Untapped New York’s expert tour guides! As you admire the twinkling lights, our guides will share tales of NYC Christmases past, unveiling secrets about the city’s beloved holiday traditions and pointing out scenes made famous by your favorite holiday films.

This tour will start near the Plaza Hotel, a famous landmark with starring roles in holiday classics like Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Eloise at Christmastime. You’ll make your way south along Fifth Avenue, stopping to admire the creative and whimsical displays at stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and more. As you walk, you’ll learn about the surprising history of this holiday tradition and find out which store was the very first to do it.
No Christmas tour in New York City would be complete without the tree at Rockefeller Center! We’ll stop to gaze up at this giant Norway Spruce and learn how the tree and the ice rink below came to be such iconic parts of the holiday season. We’ll also walk over to Radio City Music Hall, home of the high-kicking Rockettes. There, we’ll explore the history of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular which started in the 1930s.
We’ll say Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night at Bryant Park, where our tour comes to an end. There, you can see how the park is transformed every year into a sprawling winter village with a giant tree of its own. Even the neighboring New York Public Library lions are decked out for the holiday season!
