A quest to find his grandmother's birthplace led Richard Marc Sakols on a mission to capture his changing neighborhood on film.
The Queens Museum itself is a remnant of New York first World’s Fair which was held in 1939/1940. In fact it was one of only a few structures built to be permanent and the only building remaining from that time. In both the 1930s and 1960s fairs what is now the museum housed the New York Pavilion. If you are an Untapped Cities Insider, you can join us at the museum to learn more about the history of the Queens World’s Fairs and get an in-depth tour of the panorama with the museum’s Registrar and Archives Manager and resident World’s Fair expert Louise Weinberg. Weinberg will lead a talk and Q&A followed by a visit to the gallery of the Panorama of the City of New York. Insiders will also get to meet the Queens Museum’s new director Sally Tallant!
