Vintage 1970s Photos Show Lost Sites of NYC's Lower East Side
A quest to find his grandmother's birthplace led Richard Marc Sakols on a mission to capture his changing neighborhood on film.
A strange thing about all the Anthony Weiner mishigas, is seeing so much of Forest Hills in the news.
Here the press follows Weiner outside of “The Natural”, a big Korean green-grocery. Those with a keen eye might notice it’s in the title sequence of The King of Queens.
For those with an extraordinarily keen eye, an apartment building in the background is where Peter Parker first climbs a wall in Spider-Man. It was the only scene actually filmed in Forest Hills (Peter Parker’s home). He runs out of his high school, and suddenly he turns the corner of Ascan Avenue and Austin Street. The building is on Austin, just east of Ascan. Although Peter Parker’s home is at 20 Ingram Street in Forest Hills, the exteriors were filmed in Woodside. The inhabitants at 20 Ingram, incidentally with last name Parker, get tons of fanmail.
