This morning, your cup of joe is on The Whitney Museum of American Art. To mark the end of its blockbuster exhibit Edward Hopper’s NY, the museum will be giving away free coffee at various New York City locations that appear in Hopper’s paintings. The free warm beverage will come in special cups that feature Hopper’s famous scenes.
The Whitney has partnered with The Espresso Guys food truck to provide free coffee at New York City locations that include Washing Square Park, the Theater District in Midtown, and more places immortalized in the Hopper’s work. The free drinks will be available on Friday, February 17th from 10am to 4pm. Find out where exactly the coffee will be flowing on The Whitney’s Instagram page and the coffee webpage throughout the day.
Edward Hopper’s NY, one of The Whitney’s most popular exhibits, closes on March 5th. The exhibit features over 200 paintings, watercolors, prints, and drawings from The Whitney’s collection of Hopper’s work, as well as loans from public and private collections, and archival materials including printed ephemera, correspondence, photographs, and notebooks.
Born in the town of Nyack in New York’s Hudson Valley region, Hopper spent most of his life as a resident of New York City at 3 Washington Square North in Greenwich Village. Over the nearly 60 years he spent as a city dweller, Hopper, known for his famous Nighthawks painting, sketched and painted the evolving city around him. You can see an interactive map of New York City sites that appear in his work here.
