Fun Maps: The Refugees of NYC and Where They Come From

DNAinfo released a map showing where the refugees who entered through New York City come from around the world. You can filter by year, including this year so far, back to 2002. As the site reports, the government has accepted 8,066 refugees through New York City since then. The good portion appear to be arriving from Russia, particularly in the early years from 2002 to 2006, but a thousand of the refugees have come from the seven countries that President Donald Trump has restricted entry. Of those, Iraq and Iran cover almost 83% of those refugees. The data only shows port of entry, so doesn’t show where the refugees end up settling in the United States.
