If being a muggle has become a bore, the New-York Historical Society (170 Central Park West at 77th Street) is inviting you to delve in the world of magic with its new exhibition, Harry Potter: A History of Magic, which will be on view from October 5, 2018 to January 27, 2019. The British Library show, which marks the 20th anniversary of the U.S. publication of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone

by Scholastic, will capture the “traditions of folklore and magic at the heart of the Harry Potter stories” through a collection of rare books and magical objects.
The exhibition, currently on view at the British Library in London until February 28, allows visitors to see original drafts of the spellbinding series and learn about the various courses at Hogwarts — from Care of Magical Creatures to Defense Against the Dark Arts. The items to be displayed will be sourced from collections of the British Library — UK’s national library and one of the world’s greatest research libraries — the New-York Historical Society, Scholastic, and others.
In 2017, Scholastic published Harry Potter: A Journey Through a History of Magic

, which presents the amazing artifacts and other treasures curated for the exhibition. This coming fall, Scholastic will also publish the official comprehensive companion book, Harry Potter: A History of Magic, for the New York iteration of the show.
Beginning February 14 at 12pm, New-York Historical Society members can reserve advance tickets. In addition, advance tickets for the general public will be available in April. To learn more about the exhibit, visit nyhistory.org and follow @nyhistory.
