The Harvest Dome Launch in NYC: From the Brooklyn Navy Yard to Inwood

Yesterday, the Harvest Dome, a floating installation of 500 broken umbrellas and empty soda bottles, made its way by barge from the Brooklyn Navy Yard to Inwood, Manhattan. The project, conceived by Amanda Schachter and Alexander Levi at SLO Architecture, is meant to “reveal New York City’s primeval ecologies.” The Dome’s base is made up of soda bottles, which will allow it to alternate between floating on water and resting on the mud-flat at the Inwood Hill Park inlet as the tide rises and falls.

We started the day off at the Brooklyn Navy Yard

Alexander Levi and Amanda Schachter, SLO principals and the brains behind the operation, are the leftmost and second-from-the-right, respectively.

Check out the sculpture while you can! The installation will remain on display for a month before it is taken down and sold.
