Update: Check out our photos from the making of the bagel!!
On Friday at noon, Greenpoint staple, Acme Smoked Fish, will be mounting a Guinness World Record attempt to make the largest Bagel & Lox sandwich (!!) ever recorded in celebration of National Bagel and Lox Day, news first broken by Brokelyn. Acme supplies a large percentage of the smoked salmon, trout, herring and other fish New Yorkers (and shoppers around the country) buy at supermarkets.
Acme will be doing this Guinness challenge with Zucker’s Bagels & Smoked Fish. The bagel will be constructed by Acme co-CEO Adam Caslow and Zucker’s Bagels shop founder Matt Pomerantz. The event will be free and open to the public, who will then eat the bagel after it is weighed! Coffee will be provided by Brooklyn Roasting Company.
As the Acme press release states:
The companies will follow the rules set forth by the Guinness Book in order to set the record, and the sandwich will be carefully constructed and weighed before it is cut and distributed to the crowd. The sandwich will follow the Zucker’s Traditional sandwich recipe, with an oversized Everything Bagel, Cream Cheese, Acme’s Nova Scotia Smoked Salmon, Tomatoes, Red Onions and Capers.
Acme also opens its doors at 30 Gem Street every Friday morning from 8 AM to 1 PM so that locals can get fish at wholesale prices. Acme has been around since 1906 and is still family run in its fourth generation.
