Tour “Nuestra Casa: Rediscovering the Treasures of The Hispanic Society Museum & Library” and see artworks and artifacts spanning over a millennium from both masters and relatively less recognized artists.
- Discover works from the Hispanic Society’s permanent collection which illuminate the arts, literature and history of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America from antiquity to modern day.
- Experience a rare opportunity to view such works as it is the first time in five years that these objects will be back at the museum.
- Learn how traditional art historical hierarchies need to be reassessed to fully incorporate the diverse populations to whom our public institutions belong.
- See masterpieces in person such as Francisco de Goya’s Duchess of Alba (1797) and Diego Velázquez’s Portrait of a Little Girl (1638-42), which most viewers have only seen in art history books.
About this Event:
The objects featured in Nuestra Casa are a part of the HSM&L’s permanent collection and help to illuminate the wide array of arts, literature and history of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America from antiquity to modern day.
The Hispanic Society Museum & Library (HSM&L) is the primary institution and reference library dedicated solely to the preservation, study, understanding, exhibition and enjoyment of art and cultures of Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries and communities. Located in Upper Manhattan in the dynamic Washington Heights neighborhood, the museum has, since its inception, remained free of charge, providing unrivaled access to the most extensive collection of Hispanic art and literature outside of Spain and Latin America.
