On this members-only Untapped Cities Insiders tour, go inside New York’s Federal Hall, located on the site where George Washington took his oath of office as America’s first President on Wall Street. The site was also home to the country’s first Congress, Supreme Court, and Executive Branch offices, where major moments in the foundation of the country took place, including the Stamp Act Congress and where the Bill of Rights was written. The current Greek Revival-style building with its impressive domed rotunda, served as the Customs House and later part of the US Sub-Treasury, and now serves as a museum and memorial to George Washington and the beginnings of the United States of America.
This tour, led by the National Park Service, will discuss the history of Federal Hall, the construction of the Customs House, and the transformation of the building into a National Memorial, along with fun facts and historical tidbits connected with the building.
