Dolphins in the Subway by @g1g1_nyc
This week’s #untappedcities Instagram “Pic” of the week goes to this shot of subway art submitted to us by @g1g1_nyc. While we speed through the subway system on our daily commute, art abounds in the form of murals, mosaics, and sculptures which span the depths of the MTA system.
This mosaic mural is part of a larger installation by Deborah Brown, located at Houston Street. For Northbound commuters, riders can see seals and octopi waiting for trains, while the Southbound riders can see fish and dolphins actually riding the trains. These whimsical pieces connote a flooded station with sea creatures taking the place of humans while in transit.
