Continuing our new virtual programming at Untapped New York, tomorrow at noon, Flushing Town Hall’s deputy director Sami Abu Shumays will be giving our Insiders a virtual tour of the historic building, revealing many of the secrets we discovered including a former jail cell that is now a dressing room!
Sami is a multi-faceted arts administrator, artist, and educator, and will also be performing violin live for us on the stage of Flushing Town Hall. All of this will be broadcasted via Zoom (and uploaded for viewing to Insiders afterwards). Participants will be able to ask questions to Sami at the end of the tour and performance.

Flushing Town Hall, built during the Civil War. It is located between Linden Place and Leavitt Street across the street from Flushing Quaker Meeting House, which dates to 1619. Though the area around it has changed dramatically in the century and a half since the first cornerstone was laid, the Romanesque Revival-style building retains both its stateliness and its “striking picturesqueness,” as the Landmarks Preservation Commission described it in its designation report in 1968.
