How to Make a Subway Map with John Tauranac
Hear from an author and map designer who has been creating maps of the NYC subway, officially and unofficially, for over forty years!
Today at noon, join Jackie Schalk, Director of the American Family Immigration History Center at Ellis Island, for a virtual talk about Ellis Island. How far would you travel to find a better life? If you answered “whatever it takes,” you echo the feelings of the twelve million immigrants who passed through the Golden Door. Some 100 million Americans trace their roots through Ellis Island, the gateway through which our ancestors began their American dream.

Jackie will share interesting facts – and dispel some myths – about the immigrant experience. She’ll review the Foundation’s extensive passenger database, offering tips for embarking on your own genealogical journey. Jackie Schalk has been the Site Manager for the History Center at the National Museum of Immigration for 13 years. She is a genealogist and Shennachie Elect for a clan in Scotland. All of her ancestors passed through to the Port of New York including her father, a 1st generation immigrant.
