Join Our Team
Untapped Cities is a community of over 600 contributors uncovering the best of urban life from cities around the globe. We have many exciting opportunities to get involved and we’re always looking for great talent.
Are you a writer, photographer, or passionate local New Yorker?
You don’t have to be a journalist or professional photographer. Our contributors are residents, experts, tourists, students, and anybody who loves cities. Contact us at [email protected] if you’re interested in contributing as little as one article or becoming a columnist or city correspondent.
Are you passionate about NYC? Ready to share your obsession with others?
We’re always excited to meet other passionate New Yorkers and would love to hear more about your experience, expertise, and what you’d like to share about our city. Please email [email protected] with your experience and why you’re interested in becoming a tour guide for Untapped New York.
Are you interested in how it all comes together? Journalism, photography, social media, advertising, web design, business development? You’ll also get exclusive access to events we host and cover.
For over a decade, we’ve welcomed bright, motivated students to join the team for a semester or longer. Our interns get to do it all: writing published articles from day one, getting sent on assignment, managing their own columns, exploring the city, and covering events. As an Untapped New York intern, you can learn how the business of a web magazine really works, pitch your own ideas, have an article published within your first week, and, of course, re-discover the city you love. If you go to school in New York City or if you’re just looking for journalism experience, we’re currently accepting applications to join our internship class!
The editorial interns will work directly with Untapped New York founder on determining the publication schedule, proposing new articles, and writing their articles. Our editorial interns work on a full range of pieces from features, news articles, to list articles. As an editorial intern, you will also gain experience with writing for search engine optimization and using social media to promote your own work and the work of the site. You don’t need to be a journalism major, as long as you’re a strong writer, are ready to take on challenges, and can come ready with ideas for content.
Photography interns work on assignment across all of our businesses: editorial, tours and memberships. You will be out and about in the city documenting events, press walkthroughs, doing street photography, and more.
The event planning internship will take the lead on planning and executing the popular Untapped New York tour series and Untapped New York Insiders membership program featuring off-limits tours to New York City locations, contributor and reader happy hours, and talks.
Communications/Social Media Internship:
The intern will activate our social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter with goals of increasing engagement, followers and balancing the multiple objectives of the company. The intern will attend Untapped New York tours, as well as other events around the city to document on social media. The intern nat also manage the company’s customer service channels.
All internships are for school-credit only.
