This past weekend the LA Pride Parade rocked West Hollywood as thousands of people came out to celebrate gay rights. LA Pride is organized by Christopher Street West Association, Inc., a non-profit service organization within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community, composed of volunteers committed to the goals of human rights, education, outreach, and better understanding within the community, as well as the non-LGBT community.
Christopher Street West organized the world’s first PRIDE Parade in 1970 to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City. By the time the parade’s first organizers had jumped through all the legal hoops necessary to get a permit, they only had two days to organize the entire event. Fortunately, they persisted and today, the annual LA Pride Parade draws around 500,000 people every year. Here are some photos posted to Gay For America’s Facebook page:
