Back in February, we snuck inside an unassuming garage in the East Village to get a look at where food carts go to sleep at night. That gave us a glimpse into the world of street vendors, but it’s only part of the complete story. If you’ve wondered about the people who prep, serve and graciously quell our hunger pangs, make sure to keep an eye out for an upcoming “JR Photography happening,” entitled Feeding NYC. World-renowned French street photographer JR is known for his large-scale installations of black and white photographs in public places. This includes work from his INSIDE OUT series, and his hauntingly beautiful images inside the decrepit walls of the abandoned Ellis Island hospital, which we recently launched a tour about.

Feeding NYC features more than 150 life-size portrait photographs that highlight the vast diversity of street vendors. It’s temporarily on display across various locations in the city, including on walls in Midtown, Tribeca and Brooklyn. Take a look below at some of the stunning images you’ll come across:

If you’re interested in photography, join us for our next NYC iconic portraits workshop with the Voice of the NYC Subway. We’re also hosting more tours inside the abandoned hospital complex at Ellis Island, where we’ll discover all of JR’s installations.
