The cutting-edge tech of virtual reality allows you to time travel to 19th-century Paris from the heart of NYC!
On April 15th, 1874 a group of artists including Monet, Renoir, Morisot, and Degas held a radically new art exhibition in Paris. Breaking with the traditional academic painting style of the time, these artists depicted scenes of everyday life and landscapes with visible brushstrokes, dazzling depictions of light, and vibrant colors. Now, 150 years later, a new virtual reality experience allows New Yorkers to travel back in time to this moment when Impressionism was born.
Tonight with the Impressionists is a 45-minute immersive virtual reality experience that allows visitors to roam the streets of 19th-century Paris and meet the artists behind the Impressionist movement. Guests can peruse multiple levels of photographer Nadar's studio where the Impressionist Exhibition was held, step into Frédéricstep Bazille’s studio, observe Monet and Renoir painting at Île de la Grenouillère, and see the iconic sunrise at Le Havre.
Meticulously researched and crafted over two years by Excurio, in collaboration with the renowned Musée d’Orsay in Paris and GEDEON Experiences, this unique attraction recreates historical figures and pivotal moments in stunningly realistic detail. The experience is housed in an 11,000-square-foot space in Midtown Manhattan where visitors don VR masks and walk freely through the expensive room.
Tonight with the Impressionist is open Tuesday through Friday from 12 pm to 8 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm. Tickets can be purchased online. Untapped New York Members get 15% off here!
