Vintage 1970s Photos Show Lost Sites of NYC's Lower East Side
A quest to find his grandmother's birthplace led Richard Marc Sakols on a mission to capture his changing neighborhood on film.
Due to popular demand, we’ve added new dates for our tours Behind the Scenes inside (and atop) the New Yorker Hotel, led by Joe Kinney, the hotel’s senior project engineer and historian of the hotel, and our ever-popular Remnants of Penn Station tour. Part of the proceeds from the tour of the New Yorker Hotel go towards Kinney’s efforts to create a larger exhibition space for his extensive archive. On this tour, you will visit the off-limits rooftop (where the New Yorker sign is located), see the original award-winning power plant that once provided energy for the entire hotel, the active elevator room, and more spots. New dates for the New Yorker Hotel are April 12th and 26th, May 10th and 24th, and June 7th and 21st:
Behind the Scenes Tour of the New Yorker Hotel!
Our tour of the Remnants of Penn Station will cover the past, present and future plans for the central transportation hub in New York City, accompanying a hunt for the remaining pieces of the grand McKim, Mead & White station (of which there are many!). Each guest will also receive a framable, reproduction ticket of the first commuter ride into Pennsylvania Station from 1910.
