Zero Day is a limited series thriller on Netflix about the aftermath of a massive cyberattack that wipes out communications for a whole minute. Former U.S. President George Mullen (Robert de Niro) is brought in to run a Congressional committee to investigate the attack and identify the perpetrators. De Niro leads an all-star cast that includes Angela Bassett, Connie Britton, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, and Lizzy Caplan. While this is very much a government thriller, much of the filming takes place in New York City, and the action is set in Washington D.C., New York City, and the Hudson Valley.

A lot of publications share film locations these days, but here at Untapped New York, we are especially particular at locating the details that New Yorkers wouldn't miss. Enjoy!

Zero Day places George Mullen's estate in Hudson, New York in the show, but it's actually in a house in Sleepy Hollow, about 90 miles south.

As the former President of the United States, Mullen goes to visit one of the locations where Zero Day caused a lot of devastation, specifically people trapped below ground in a subway car below Wall Street. Close to the Wall Street and William Street intersection, he confronts protestors in a clip that goes viral and helps lift up a police barrier that had been knocked over. If you look closely, you will see a twisted up subway entrance. Mullen's car drives through the streets of Lower Manhattan.

Mullen's daughter Alexandra is a Congresswoman, and we first see her walking out of what is supposed to be Congress in Washington D.C. The New York County Supreme Court in Foley Square doubles as the exterior of the Capitol Building. In scenes shown from further away, the Capitol Building is added through CGI.

The interior of Congress is filmed at the New York Public Library on 42nd Street. Both the main lobby is used, when Speaker of the House Richard Dreyer gives a speech, and the hallways.

This building in Lower Manhattan, just south of the former U.S. Customs House (now the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian), serves as the exterior of the Zero Day Commission headquarters, run by former President George Mullen. The interior is filmed on a soundstage in Steiner Studios in Brooklyn.

A meeting takes place in an empty Eleven Madison Park between Roger Carlson (Jesse Plemons) and Robert Lyndon, a financier with whom Carlson has a long-time shady information deal. The fine dining restaurant, which opened in 1998, is one of Manhattan's Michelin-star rated establishments.

The home and headquarters of coder Monike Kidder is filmed at the House of the Redeemer on the Upper East Side. This mansion at 7 East 95th Street is the former home of Edith Shepard Fabbri, the great-granddaughter of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt and wife of J. P. Morgan associate Ernesto Fabbri. Designed by L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts trained architect Grosvenor Atterbury, the building now serves as a unique setting in New York City for reflection, study, fellowship, and prayer. The gorgeous rooms are filled with items from the Fabbris’ collection of Italian Renaissance and Baroque furnishings and architectural fragments, including original wood ceilings and paneling from a 1600’s Ducal palace on the outskirts of Urbino, Italy that were transported across the ocean through U-boat infested waters during World War I!
