A Taste of New York: Food Tour of Chinatown, Little Italy, and LES

Margherita Pizza from Lombardi's.

Once one of the most densely populated districts in the world, the Lower East Side of Manhattan has witnessed numerous changes during the past hundred years. This walking tour is a resourceful glimpse into the past, with stops at some off-the beaten track locations. The tour will focus on a few of the remaining vestiges and surviving structures of this era of immigration and offer a taste of the delectable flavors of each neighborhood.

Remnants of the World’s Fair

The NY State Pavilion in Queens

Didn’t make it to the 1939/40 or 1964/65 World’s Fairs? Here’s your chance! Uncover remnants of both fairs such as hidden time capsules, the Fountain of the Planets, the Unisphere, and the historic New York State Pavilion. If you did attend back in the day, revisit the park and tell us your story! Flushing Meadows-Corona Park transformed from marshy wetlands to ash dump, to the site of not one, but two World’s Fairs. This tour explores the past, present, and future of this 900-acre park, an obsession of the late “Master Builder,” Robert Moses.

Victorian Flatbush Mansions Tour

1440 Buckingham Road, Michelle Williams house

Discover the spectacular mansions and history of Flatbush, a truly unique Brooklyn neighborhood. In many ways, the neighborhood best encapsulates the full history of Brooklyn — from its 17th-century Dutch colonial history to 19th-century residential growth to a population boom of working-class immigrant communities in the 20th century. You’ll see unique houses such as Brooklyn’s famous Japanese house, visit a private tennis club dating back to 1889, and explore several small historic districts and mansions to see how centuries of history are preserved within a small area.

Hidden Gems of Governors Island

Governors Island Gantry

This guided walking tour will be led by Mandy Edgecombe, a trained naturalist and former National Park Service Ranger who worked on Governors Island. In addition to learning about the known history of the island, which dates back over 400 years, guests explore the natural resources such as the modern gardens (2016) and the habitat they provide, enjoy public outdoor sculpture spread throughout the Island, and many bring bicycles or rent them there which is our favorite way of experiencing the 172 acre park!

Secrets of the Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge

On this tour, you’ll hear the story of the intrepid family of engineers who designed the bridge and oversaw its construction, discover an abandoned park hidden in plain sight, explore the perimeter of the Manhattan anchorages of the bridge, locate the site of the nation’s first White House and so much more!
