Now in its 26th year, the show is presenting new replicas — constructed from plant-based materials like seeds, bark and twigs.— of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the General Electric Building and St. Bartholomew’s Church, which will join NYBG’s collection of more than 150 iconic structures in the city. This year’s show is specifically highlighting Midtown Manhattan, and also contains recreations of structures from the city’s past, including once-standing buildings like the original Pennsylvania Station.
“I think that people come and want to see things that remind them of their sort of New York moment,” Karen Daubmann, the New York Botanical Garden’s associate vice president for exhibitions and public management, told amNewYork.

In familiar tradition, G-scale trains will abe traveling on nearly a half mile of track, passing sights such as the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, and Rockefeller Center. Behind the construction of these replicas is Applied Imagination, a Kentucky-based company that creates “botanical architecture” for public garden exhibits, seasonal displays and garden railways. Applied Imagination has been working alongside NYBG since the show’s inception in 1992.
The Holiday Train Show is now on view through January 15, 2018 at the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. Tickets can be purchased here.
