Parker West, located at 214 W 72nd Street in Lincoln Square, offers many full-floor homes with Hudson River views conceived from the ground-up by award-winning design firm Grade New York. The building is 22 stories and offers modern living in a historic neighborhood surrounded by co-op buildings, museums and concert halls. “A modern yet classic material palette of limestone, bronze and terrazzo highlight the welcoming arrival,” the building’s website states. “Rounded edges and plaster walls soften the attended lobby. The elevator complements the design of the residences with inviting warm woods and patterned terrazzo flooring.”
The luxury homes provide direct elevator entry, revealing expansive windows with north and south exposure, white oak floors, and curated details. The open-plan kitchen features integrated appliances and rift oak cabinetry to integrate with the living and dining areas. Slab marble and etched glass complement warm woods and pendant lighting, and open shelving allows for convenience and curation. The master bathroom boasts warm woods, material opulence, and supple curved elements. The second bath incorporates lighter tones, rounded edges and terrazzo floors. The development team used natural materials and light-filled design to honor the building’s classic roots and its predecessor that was torn down three years ago.
The apartment is named author Dorothy Parker, who grew up in the house that occupied the site. Dorothy Parker actually adored real-estate developers, as well as the Upper West Side, attending school on 79th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. A plaque in the lobby of the building reads: “This was Dorothy Parker’s childhood home.” There is also a photo of Parker in the lobby, as well as images of her original home in the amenities space. However, she also was quoted as saying, “my name will never be writ large on the roster of Those Who Do Things,” which was indeed wrong.
