How to Make a Subway Map with John Tauranac
Hear from an author and map designer who has been creating maps of the NYC subway, officially and unofficially, for over forty years!
The British Invasion has come to SoHo, just in time for all the Beatles fans on your holiday shopping list. Sony Music’s The Thread Shop and Apple Corps, Ltd have created a colorful pop up shop filled with Fab Four themed merchandise and immersive experiences. It’s hard to miss the rainbow covered storefront as you walk down Mercer Street. Inside, immerse yourself in everything Beatles, from limited edition merchandise to photos ops that will make you feel like you are part of the band.
The pop up shop celebrates and showcases the first wave of products available under a newly announced licensing agreement for The Beatles merchandising rights in North America. Inside, you will find everything from Beatles themed socks (arranged in a Christmas tree display of course) to a Yellow Submarine bottle opener. There are also holiday items like Beatles Christmas sweaters, hats, scarves and ornaments. If you are buying a gift, you can have it gift wrapped in Beatles themed wrapping paper.
The pop up shop isn’t just a store, but an immersive experience where you can relive some of the greatest moments in Beatles history. You can have your picture taken in three different album vignettes: “Yellow Submarine,” “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “The White Album.” Have a seat behind the drums or grab a mic and pretend you’re on the Ed Sullivan show, where The Beatles made their U.S debut in 1964, or just hang out in the mod 1960s lounge.
Of course, the entire experience is enhanced by a non-stop soundtrack of Beatles hits and videos of iconic performances. The Beatles pop up shop at 163 Mercer Street is open Monday to Thursday, 11:00am to 7:00pm; Friday to Saturday: 11:00am to 8:00pm; and Sunday: 12:00pm to 7:00pm. It will be up through December 22nd, 2019. If you aren’t able to make it into the store, you can purchase merchandise online here.
