A new proposal by the Port Authority extends PATH train service on the World Trade Center-Newark Penn Station line to a new station off Newark Liberty International Airport, east of Frelinghuysen Avenue at Noble Street. The extension would make the airport more easily accessible as the Airport Station currently has no pedestrian or bus access.

By creating this extension, travel time to EWR will be reduced as well as become more predictable, providing more access to those traveling from Lower Manhattan, Jersey City, and Bergen, Hudson, and Essex Counties in New Jersey. Using the existing stations along the World Trade Center-Newark Penn Station line, the PATH Extension project will add a new station near Airport Station, a new rail yard facility, as well as modify the existing platforms at Newark Penn Station.

There are no details on estimated time of completion for the project as it has only been recently announced. But the Port Authority will be holding two public meetings this week in Newark to discuss the full scope of the project.

The first meeting will be held today, November 28 at the Weequahic Park Sports Authority Community Center, 92 Carmichael Drive in Newark from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The second meeting is scheduled for for Thursday, November 30 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Hilton Newark Penn Station, Garden State Ballroom, 1048 Raymond Boulevard.
