Things are certainly moving forward with New York City’s Citywide Ferry, scheduled to open in Summer 2017. First, a new web portal was released last week and today the NYCEDC released renderings for the new ferry landings. Although some of the stops will be familiar to those that know the East River Ferry or Water Taxi services, there will be new stops like Soundview in the Bronx, along the east side of Manhattan at 90th Street, 62nd Street, and Grand Street, in the Rockaways, in Bay Ridge, and two in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Two of the lines won’t open until Summer 2018 however, so you’ll see a gradual rollout. 10 landings will open in 2017, servicing six routes and an estimated 4.6 million people. The price will be the same as the subway, though free transfers won’t be available at the beginning. There will be free transfers to other ferry systems that exist, however.

As reported by the NYCEDC:

Ferry landings will be 35 feet wide and 90 feet long, providing ample space for passengers to queue while waiting to board a vessel. When fully complete, the landings will be equipped with canopies and wind screens to provide shelter from inclement weather. Ticket machines and waiting areas will also be located on the barges, allowing for minimal upland impact at the landing sites.

The boats themselves, operated by Hornblower will have WiFi and carry up to 149 passengers.
