Explore overlooked city sights on one of our expert-led NYC walking tours!
We’re excited to reveal our brand new Untapped Cities tours page today and share with you what’s up our sleeve for the rest of 2016. We started to run Untapped Cities Tours in 2013 as a way to bring readers to the very places we were covering, many of which are off-limits to the public. To do so, we partnered directly with organizations and buildings like the Woolworth Building, the Players Club, Eldridge Street Synagogue, the United Palace Theater. Our on-going Behind the Scenes NYC Tour Series with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has given us the keys to unique development sites like the Staten Island Farm Colony, Hunts Point Food Distribution Center, and the Brooklyn Kings Theatre.
In many cases, we’ve also been given special access to places not offered on normal tours to special New York City locations like the Brooklyn Army Terminal and Grand Central Terminal (yes, our site contributors got to visit the mythical M42 basement and the glass walkways). We also have Untapped Cities-produced tours, which include the popular Remnants of Penn Station tour, Secrets of Grand Central Terminal, Remnants of Dutch New Amsterdam and more.

We love this opportunity to meet our readers, learn from people as passionate about the city as we are, and to share with them some of the unique places we love. We’ll be adding more tours in the coming months and some of the tours we’re most excited about include a Subway Tour of its Past, Present and Future (which includes a docent-led visit to the Lowline Lab), insiders visit to the members-only Players Club on Gramercy Park, a secrets of Coney Island tour.
Our new tours page has a featured slider and has upcoming tours below it for easy navigation (a big improvement from the straight up list), and a calendar. Check out the new Untapped Cities tours page and join us for an upcoming adventure!
