New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, and Times Square is currently being prepped for the occasion. The giant “1” and “8” of the “2018” sign arrived on Wednesday for a public unveiling. Visitors to the plazas had the opportunity to snap some photos before the numbers continued on their journey to One Times Square, where they will light up at midnight on New Year’s Eve.
The NY1 video above shows just how large the numerals are. Since we’re so used to seeing them from below, it’s hard to believe that each digit measures seven-feet-tall! Those who had the opportunity to take a picture with the “1” and “8” can share their photos on social media using the hashtag #BallDrop for a chance to be featured on the official Times Square New Year’s Eve webcast, which you can access on www.timessquarenyc.org on December 31st.
