At Caveat’s New York City’s Secrets and Lies, on Wednesday, August 8th, listen to five expert storytellers spin incredible tales about the secret pasts of New York City locations you walk by every day. All the stories are true except for one. If you can identify the lie, you’ll be in the running to win a pair of tickets to a secret NYC event!
This month’s show will feature a special guest who is a true New York City secret. He is a filmmaker who is building an interactive, geolocation-based app that brings the secrets of New York City to life through storytelling. He needs the audience to be a part of this project!

storyteller, journalist, and award-winning author with a deep passion for New York City and the secrets it holds.Storytellers include:
John Bucher: Mythologist, writer, and communicator based out of Hollywood, California. He is the author of six books on storytelling and has consulted and worked with companies including HBO, DC Comics, The History Channel, and A24 Films. He has served as a story consultant and writer for numerous film, television, and Virtual Reality projects. John has spoken on 5 continents about how individuals, organizations, cultures, and nations can tell a better story.
Leslie Goshko: Host of the monthly storytelling series, Sideshow Goshko, which has been hailed as a Time Out New York and New York Times “Critics’ Pick”, and also noted as “a well-programmed night” by the New York Times.
A Manhattan Monologue Slam Champion, and contributing blogger for the Huffington Post, Leslie’s stories and comedy writing have appeared on Sirius XM, WNYC, New York Metro “Funny Page,” and more.
Erin Hunkemoeller: Teacher, tour guide, event host, dancer, and storyteller. Erin teaches high school Spanish in New York City at the Urban Assembly Maker Academy where she uses curiosity and drama to drive her classes.
Even though she only moved to NYC two years ago from Dayton, Ohio, Erin immediately fell in love with the city and made it her mission to learn as much as humanly possible about her new home, so she became a licensed NYC tour guide.
Thomas Rowle: Filmmaker, storyteller, and writer from Ireland. Thomas moved to Brooklyn in 2016. He’s fascinated by cities and the wealth of narratives that lie beneath each street. To this end, he created Storymap, a critically acclaimed app and website that mapped Dublin through its people and their stories, and is currently prepping a New York version of the project. He is the resident filmmaker at the Irish Arts Center.
Ashley Semrick: Ashley is a lead educator at the Blue School in Manhattan, an independent school founded in 2006 by the Blue Man Group. Ashley is also an NYC Tour Guide obsessed with New York City history, and specializes in stories surrounding the Brooklyn Bridge. She is currently writing a biography about Emily Warren Roebling, unsung STEAM heroine of the Victorian era, and also performs regularly as a cellist and singer/songwriter with her rock band, After School Special.
