“Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience” at NYC’s Intrepid Museum Celebrates 50 Years of Star Trek
If at anytime in the last 50 years you have found yourself saying “the lives of the many out-weigh the lives of the few,” “you have and will always be my friend,” or “live long and prosper,” you have Star Trek to thank for that. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum has opened an interactive exhibit celebrating the history of the Star Trek franchise.
Located on Pier 86 and occupying 2,000 square feet of space, Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience gives fans (or Trekkies) the opportunity to see original costumes from the many Star Trek series and feature films and also gives them the chance to be what they’ve always wanted—members of Starfleet.
The Starfleet Academy Experience has numerous sections where fans can interact and learn more about the history of Star Trek. These sections or “zones” each focus on a specific objective. “Language” is where you can learn to speak a little Klingon and “Navigation” allows you to see the planets that the crew of the Enterprise has visited over the years. There is also training to use Phasers, the iconic weapon used in Star Trek as well as a Command, where you can sit in a replica of the bridge used in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The exhibit is open Sunday to Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm. On Friday and Saturdays, the exhibit is open from 10am to 9pm. It will run until October 31st.
