Hello readers. We know the coronavirus situation is affecting all of you in some way. More than 50% of you, our readers, on Untapped New York come from the tri-state area. 80% of our tour guests are from New York City or New York State. As the coronavirus situation unfolds here in the New York area, we are thinking of all of you during this time and planning accordingly.
We too are also feeling the effects of the global and local downturn in activity, but we want to assure you that at this time, all of our tours and experiences are still on. We are actively keeping tabs on the latest updates from Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill De Blasio, and are following the recommendations of Fred Dixon, President & CEO of NYC & Company, the official destination marketing organization for New York City regarding best practices for tours and experiences.
He writes, in his daily dispatch from yesterday, “New York City is open for business and operating as normal. Visitors and event planners should continue to come to the five boroughs, following CDC guidelines. We are continuing with our new “Keep Exploring NYC” initiative to encourage visitation to and within the five boroughs by both visitors and locals.”
Untapped New York will be using the hashtag #KeepExploringNYC to support the efforts of NYC & Company, as well as encourage all of our readers and tour guests to continue their discovery of New York City within their level of comfort and safety. Fortunately, through Untapped New York you can discover places in multiple ways: just by reading on our online magazine, coming on a tour, or becoming a member to access dozens of free events a month.
If you were planning on visiting from outside New York City, so far, it has been business as usual in the city and New Yorkers have, for the most part, been going about their daily routines. Restaurants are full, the subway is busy, the streets are bustling as usual. We thank all of our members, tour guests, and readers, for continuing to support Untapped New York. We’re a small business and are greatly indebted to all of you for making what we do possible. If you need to reach us to discuss an upcoming tour, you can contact us by email at tours@untappedcities.com or by phone 347-784-3157.
As NYC & Company states, strategies are already in development for the recovery ahead for the travel industry in New York City. We hope to emerge from this, like all of you, stronger than before.
From the Untapped New York Team
