One of the many things we love on our #untappedcities Instagram live feed, is getting an inside peek into the cool things all of you readers are exploring and photographing. Just recently, something rather amazing caught our eye. More than your standard urban exploration, a group known as f/11 was doing “steel spinning,” which for us lay folk is a form of pyrotechnic fire art in abandoned subway stations in New York City.
If there’s a group that has a larger collective passion for the city, we think this posse might be it. Above ground, below ground, in eerie overcast weather and in bright sunlight, these guys are out, climbing, seeing, trespassing, and photographing. A look through their Instagram feeds show an eye for detail, from the patterning of residential tower windows to a miniature abandoned fire truck in a forgotten place.
