As we’re Francophiles and die-hard New Yorkers, this is one of our favorite street art finds in Paris: the “New York Loves Me” or “New York Hearts Me” graffiti. We’ve seen them all over town, from the Marais to Montmartre, where we snapped this photo on one of the long famous staircases leading up the hill. Sometimes the letters are in white, sometimes in black, but online, there is quite a lot of confusion around who is responsible.
Until now, because we’ve tracked down the perpetrators! Although comments on Paris Daily Photo linked the graffiti to the brand La Fraise, who has a similar shirt, the typography is different. The logo belongs to Parisian t-shirt brand NY Loves Me, whose website is hard to find because it doesn’t have a title or meta description, but it has photos of the graffiti they’ve done all over Paris. The company’s tag line, “L’arrogance se porte bien,” means “Arrogance is doing well.”
At the end of the day though, the graffiti, and it’s popularity, shows the kinship between Parisians and New Yorkers, residents of two wonderfully different, yet complementary cities.
