How to Make a Subway Map with John Tauranac
Hear from an author and map designer who has been creating maps of the NYC subway, officially and unofficially, for over forty years!
In this week’s “Tap This,”Untapped founder Michelle Young takes us from New York to France and back.
Most Untapped thing I did last week: I completely disconnected from modern life on private islands in Brittany, a region in the north of France. There is no electricity or running water on the island. You don’t quite realize the cold clutch of the digital world until it’s not available to you. But I didn’t really miss any of my tech gadgets, highly recommend virtual disconnection even for a few hours. This area of Brittany is near Lannion is full of great seafood, walks through the craggy landscape and the island where Charles Lindberg retreated to after the loss of his son is also worth a look.
Most Untapped thing I did this week: I attended and photographed the first New York City Dîner en Blanc held near Ground Zero at the World Financial Center.
What I’m Reading: George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones. After becoming addicted to the HBO series I began the books, which are fantastic. There are slight changes in characters but much of the dialogue is nearly exact to the book, which is pretty rare for adaptations.
What I’m Using: For backpacking, my Osprey Talon 44 pack has been my trusty companion on 4 continents, 1 to go.
What I’m Wearing: Back in Paris, I shopped at two of my favorite places–Oysho for cute lounge and beachwear and American Vintage for blase knits and sweaters that are distinctly Parisian.
