In the mood for some delicious food, artisanal products, and live music? Head on up to the Bronx’s first-ever Night Market, at Fordham Plaza this Saturday from 4 to 9 PM. Following the lead of the Queens International Night Market, which opened in 2014, the Bronx Night Market will feature more than 40 food vendors, as well as a variety of art and merchandise vendors. Untapped Cities got a sneak peek of some of the food and drinks to be served at this open-air festival.
Founders Marco Shalma of bloxnyc and Amanda Celestino of Edible Bronx say the Bronx Night Market a “mission to make sure that the greater New York recognizes the culinary, crafty Bronx” that they know. Shalma says that the food available will “represent the city’s diverse culinary offerings and stands to be the biggest of its kind in the boogie down.” The market’s website says the market will highlight “the global community within our city.”
The market will also showcase live music from Bronx-native musicians, including Bryan Durieux, an Alternative Rock/R&B singer-songwriter who has performed at Mercury Lounge and Rockwood Music Hall, as well as Consumata Sonidera, a band that performs cumbia-punk dance music.

You don’t need a ticket to enter the market, and you can get to Fordham Plaza either by taking the Metro North railroad to the Fordham Road Station right across from the plaza via the Harlem line (which is approx. 20 minutes via Grand Central), or the Subway D or 4 train to Fordham Road (which is approx. a 10-15 minute walk from the Plaza).

If you don’t have time this weekend to go to the Night Market, don’t worry! The market continues from June-October on the last Saturday of each month.
