When Nazi U-boats were torpedoed it was common practice for some American destroyers to bring the survivors aboard. After last week’s attack, the USS Cauldwell brings aboard German sailors where it’s revealed that Owen and Lizzie’s father, Cornelius Tulip, is stationed as a Lieutenant. It’s through a deliberately boozy chat in the Cauldwell’s mess hall that Lieutenant Tulip gets a German sailor to reveal a Nazi plot to destroy New York City.
It’s partially based on one that almost happened! More to come on that as the plot unfolds.
