Hydroponic Farm Tasting Tour
On this tour, you’ll sample dozens of freshly grown herbs, greens, and edible flowers. You’ll also enjoy a complimentary 0% ABV botanical beverage crafted with Farm. One ingredients. The tour will be led by one of Farm. One’s passionate and knowledgeable guides who will be ready to answer all of your questions.
Farm. One originally sprouted at the Institute of Culinary Education in downtown Manhattan and eventually expanded into an underground space below Tribeca’s Michelin-star-rated restaurant, Atera. The Tribeca farm provided hard-to-find herbs and other greens to the chefs of New York City. When the pandemic hit in 2020 and many restaurants were forced to shut their doors, the farm began expanding its consumer outreach.
Today, Farm. One operates out of a 10,000-square-foot warehouse on Bergen Street in Prospect Heights. While still providing produce for restaurant chefs, the farm has expanded its offerings to include weekly “greens boxes” available for delivery within the local community. Packaged in reusable and returnable containers for maximum sustainability, the boxes are stuffed with the freshest greens, herbs, and flowers, all harvested the day they are served. Inside the box, you’ll find items like Ruby Streak Mustard Greens, Purple Kale, Rambo Radish, Mint Blossoms, Marigolds, and Star Flowers. The arrangement is different every week!
At the recently opened facility, visitors can watch the daily goings-on of the vertical farm through a large window. Farm. One’s unique indoor growing techniques allow crops to grow year-round. Zero pesticides and far less water is needed compared to traditional farming methods. Farm. One plans to eventually achieve net carbon-zero farming.
In addition to the Neighborhood Farm’s hi-tech indoor agriculture space, the building also features a 1,500-square-foot showroom and private event space – The Pavilion. Here, Farm. One hosts a variety of fun and informative public events and classes. You can learn the basics of hydroponic farming, how to bake cookies with edible flowers, craft an edible floral arrangement, and more. Check out their calendar of events to see which panel discussions, pop-up chef visits, cooking demos, and more are happening next.
